Sustainability
At Airweave, quality sleep and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. That's why, since our founding, Airweave has been committed to both providing exceptional sleep and minimizing mattress waste. From creating recyclable mattresses to offsetting our plastic footprint, ensuring comfort that's good for both you and the planet.
The Mattress Industry Has A Waste Problem
Over 20 million mattresses end up in landfills every year in the U.S. alone. The majority of mattresses are not designed with recycling in mind, often consisting of a complex combination of springs, urethane foam, and other non-recyclable materials. As a result, millions of mattresses end up in landfills each year, where they occupy substantial space and contribute to long-term environmental harm.
Recycling rates for mattresses are shockingly low. Only about 20-25% of disposed mattresses are recycled, despite containing recyclable materials like steel, wood, and foam. Most recycling barriers stem from design complexities and lack of infrastructure.
Traditional mattresses can take over 100 years to decompose. Foam and synthetic materials commonly used in mattresses break down extremely slowly, releasing harmful chemicals into the soil and groundwater.
Our commitment
Airweave is dedicated to combating waste in the mattress industry through the innovative use of Airfiber®—a groundbreaking material made from food-grade polyethylene that replaces traditional foam and coil in mattresses. This recyclable material not only offers superior comfort but also significantly reduces waste. By designing a sleep solution that is durable, recyclable, and environmentally responsible, we aim to redefine sustainability in the mattress industry. Our commitment to eco-friendly innovation supports both personal wellness and the health of our planet, ensuring a better future for generations to come.
Airweave recovers 1 lb of plastic from the environment for every product sold.
Proudly Plastic Neutral
Airweave is committed to tackling plastic pollution head-on through our partnership with CleanHub. For every product sold, we fund the collection and recycling of plastic waste before it enters our oceans. This means that we offset 100% of our plastic footprint by removing an equivalent amount of plastic from the environment for every kilogram we use. Together with CleanHub, we're working towards a healthier future for our oceans and ecosystems.
