During the 2020 Summer Games, Airweave gained attention for its "anti-sex" cardboard beds provided to athletes, though this story was largely a viral rumor. Brett Thornton, now the COO of Airweave, is promoting the company's innovative products in North America, emphasizing their game-changing qualities in sleep technology.
Previously making futons, Airweave needed guidance to enter the U.S. mattress market, which Thornton has been providing. The company plans to launch wholesale partnerships by year-end and open a flagship store in early 2025. Airweave, the official bed supplier for the 2024 Summer Games, will equip athletes and media partners with customizable beds using their unique Airfiber material, inspired by fishing line. This material, created by founder Motokuni Takaoka, is durable and designed to enhance sleep quality.
Thornton is working on reeducating consumers about Airweave's benefits, including more deep sleep time per night. He highlights the industry's need for innovation, contrasting Airweave's firm support approach with traditional mattress designs.
